If i was asked to describe this photo to someone who couldn't see it, I would say this :
At the very front, in the almost direct middle, is a sign, like an upside-down stop sign. Only the back of it is showing. the sign is casting a shadow on the pavement behind it. In the far right, in the background, there is what looks like a car park, but it is out of focus, and unclear. the road tilts the opposite way to the sign, which creates an interesting contrast between the two. There isn't much in the background, just an empty caravan, which i think adds to the desolate, abandoned feeling of the photo. directly behind the caravan, in the background, is a tree, and next to that is a house. The sign splits the photo up, so on the other side there is a big, almost triangular shaped bush, and a white car. The main focus of the photo is the sign. I know this because it's right in the middle of the foreground and its really in focus, whereas the rest of the photo is slightly unclear.
Questions I would ask the photographer about the photo are:
- Why is the sign lopsided? Is that on purpose?
- What was the reason for taking this photo?
- Why is it black and white?
- Did you intend for the clouds to appear to sit on the sign?
- How did you come across this particular setting?
If I lived in this photo, I think it would be quite quiet, not a cheerful, loud neighbourhood. There wouldn't be many signs of life, and the weather would be grey and cloudy.
